David Medina & Tim DeMagistris | Washington, DC
It wasn’t until David Medina and Tim DeMagistris re-connected 8 years after first meeting that they realized they were meant to be together. David and Tim went on a few dates during the summer of 2000, but lost touch with each other when David left Washington D.C. temporarily for work. In 2008, David and Tim met again by accident, and it was then that they were able to pick up where they had left off. Tim and David have been together ever since.
David’s and Tim’s families have been very supportive of their relationship from the very beginning. Tim’s mother helped the couple move in to their first home together in 2010 – the same year David’s nephew, Michael, asked Tim to be his godfather. During the summer of 2012, David and Tim got engaged while on vacation in Italy. “When we called our parents at 4 a.m. EST (due to the time difference) to share our exciting news with them, they all panicked because they thought we were calling them about an accident or medical emergency. When we told them about our engagement, we heard nothing but screams (of happiness!) on the phone!”
David and Tim were married on New Year’s Eve 2012 in Washington, D.C. “We feel very blessed to have been able to exchange our marriage vows surrounded by our friends and family in our nation’s capital.”
David, who is originally from Chicago and Tim who grew up in Providence, recently purchased a new home in Washington D.C. where they now live with their two dogs – Puck and Duke!
David and Tim are strongly committed to helping all same-sex couples secure their freedom to marry.
“We strongly believe that everyone should be able to love and marry the person of their choice. When we were younger, we both hoped and believed that we’d have the opportunity to get married during our lifetimes. Now that our right to marry is protected in Washington D.C., we are committed to doing everything we can to help make our dream a reality for LGBT individuals in all 50 states and around the world.”
